Refugee day commemorated in Pretoria

The UN refugee agency together with South African government and refugee representative bodies such as Somali Association of South Africa commemorated world refugee day in Saturday in Pretoria.

The beautiful event organized by UNHCR together with Tshwane institute of leadership was help in Burgerspark central Pretoria.

Country representative of UNHCR Mr. Kampibi spoke about the state of refugees in the world, he thanked to the South African government for their hospitality, he mentioned that Tanzania gave 150 thousand refugees a citizenship and he expects same for SA.

Abdinasir B. Ahmed was one of the speakers, he was speaking on behalf of the African refugee youth in South Africa, and he urged all stakeholders to do something about the deteriorating education of the refugee youth.

Deputy Director General of the department of home affairs who spoke on behalf of the government assured the refugees that the government will do everything to protect those noting threats from the locals.

The turn out was fantastic and people were entertained by chorus groups and soccer matches from big TV screen.

The theme of the this year is "You take my home, but not my hope"
