Somali Community Pledge R270 000 worth of Support to Motherwell Residents on Chronic Medication
The South African Somali Community will help poor people taking chronic medication in three Nelson Mandela Bay clinics get much needed food.
Approximately 1000 people taking medication in Well’s Estate Clinic, Thanduxolo Clinic in NU10 and the Motherwell Healthcare Centre in NU4B will benefit from the initiative.
The patients will get a meal each day before taking their medication for the next six months at a total cost of R15 000 per clinic per month.
The initiative starting later this month is done in conjunction with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality through the Motherwell Councillor’s Forum, the Motherwell Urban Renewal Programme, and the South African Police Service, the Community Police Forum and municipal clinics in the area.
The initiative forms part of the broader efforts to ensure the socio-economic integration of Somalis into the communities they live and trade in with a view to ensure mutually beneficial community upliftment initiatives.
